Finally A real Bosc Owner

ztous Aug 11, 2006 06:49 PM

Well I finally consirder myself a real Sav owner because well today I got chomped . I figured it was a gonna happen eventually and I was a little scared of it when I first got the foot long bottemless pit. I was taking him out to let him have a good soakin in the tub when I whent to transfer him to my other hand and I left my knuckle open my fault really. Well it didn't hurt as much as I suspected although I was a little suprised to discover he had teeth. So just how big do Savs teeth get? and also do I have to worry now that he has a taste for my blood lol.

If you think about it, you'd realize most reptiles have teeth (Chelonians have beaks, rawr) I mean how silly would it be for an animal to gum you to death?
I actually got that question from my little sister today.. and then I went on a rant citing the questions I get most often are:
1. Do they bite?
2. Do they have teeth?
3. Is it an Iguana?
4. Is it Venomous/Poisonous?
5. Can I eat it? (Serious.. Southern California, Iguanas are tree chickens, go figure)

Not sure of the length of a full grown bosc, but I figure between a quarter and a half inch, possibly longer, the teeth are hidden most times though, even when my tegu gapes you can't see 'em, so can't blame anyone for not knowing..
Ah well, that's what herpers are here for, to educate the world on the mechanics of being bitten.

Which reminds me, Congratulations

Well, congratulation of being bitten! [laugh!!!] My Sav bit me as well a number of time when I pick him up to change his newspaper covering the cage floor. Luckily, it didn't hurt at all; he is just too small. I notice he has teeth, too, but they seems too small to event pierce my skin. Your bosc bite will probably hurt more as he gets older because his teeth are gonna be bigger, so becareful now that he knows bitting you will accomplish what he wants. Never pick up a monitor when it doesn't want to be picked up or surprise it; it will bite you!

I got bit by an adult back when I was working in an exotic pet store. I'd say he was around 3 feet and kinda fat. He was sleeping on the opposite side of the cage and I was opening a can of cat food and grabbed its dish to put the food on it and he just came out of no where and bit me on my thumb trying to get the food. It let go, I bled but not alot of damage. Just barely broke the skin.

I got a baby now.
