Constipated Savannah Monitor

drvinestein Aug 27, 2006 08:17 PM

I have a female Savannah Monitor and she has been very constipated lately. She can't make a BM, and is now refusing food and acting lethargic.

I have been soaking her in warm water nightly to help loosen it up and gently massaging her sides (I can feel it and she is sensitive). I don't use wood chips or bedding anymore, so she can't be bound up on that - it's more or less just hair.

Here's a nasty trick I used to do for her - I'd inject a f/t with cod liver oil to help lubricate the "pipes", but now she refuses food. This has been a problem for about a month.

Anybody else have these problems?

stop injecting prey with cod liver oil. there might be something wrong with your humidity. Or it's stressed out from all the forced soaking and massaging. Take it to a vet.
