Taming a Savannah Monitor

brad211 Sep 20, 2006 10:56 PM

I understand that monitors will never be "tame" but it seems that it is possible to calm them when handled regularly from birth. I however am trying to tame an monitor who has already grown to about 17 inches. I don't know how old he is but he isn't a baby and still has plenty to grow. He has hardly had any handling time and has quite the attitude. He tail flicks and snaps at anyone who trys to pick him up. Once picked up it takes a couple of minuites for him to stop struggling but will resume once moved or touched. Does anyone have any advise for taming or is it simply a lost cause because he hasn't been handled while young? Thanks for any help.

I recommend that you search the 2006 archives.
Search for the keywords " taming holly"
the article is named "HANDLING (not taming!) and other stuff)", written by Holly and is hands down the best post I've seen here regarding handling a monitor.

I want to print Holly's advise, but having gone to the archives, I find I have no toolbar to work from. How can I get it printable?

Toolbar?
I just highlighted the article. Hit either control c or go to edit>copy to copy the selection. Paste it into Word and either save it or print it from there.

They, monitors, normally calm down with age and size. Unless you cause them problems. Cheers
