Dislike of Females?

dpreston Dec 29, 2006 04:54 PM

I have juvi Savannah. I believe he's a male ( He was probed which I'm aware isn't reliable but I needed SOMETHING to go off of. ). He's by far my favorite reptile. I have a colombian red-tail and work with well over 20 boids. I love coming home and feeding my little monster. I read horror stories about how people feed them so very little and I can't think of WHY they'd do it. Yes it get's a little expensive ( 3 chicks every 2 days with snacks in between ) but it's so great to seem the way he behaves when he's full and happy. He's ALWAYS been very calm with me. Sit's on my head and basically just lounges around. He'll squirm a bit when I first lift him out of his tank but he calms quickly. He's like my dogs' ( who oddly enough he get's along with as well ). My only issue with him is his complete and utter hatred of my girlfriend. I recently introduced them ( He has his own room, away from my snakes ) and it was quite horrible. He charged her feet, whipped and hissed and was hostile the entire time he was out. He refused to eat in front of her and was just not himself. Could it be that he's only been around me a large male and has developed a dislike of females? Or was it just the shock of seeing another big ( for him ) human.

Hahahahhaha, I think he is telling you somthing. You better drop that one. Just kidding. I had a snake like that, everytime it saw my wife it snapped. Could be sent or voice, not sure, or the way she moves. Or could be he thinks he will be replaced. Just kidding. I would be intrested to see what someone else thought of that.

It's very odd. He takes food from my fingers normally, without a problem. He takes it from my friend Matt's fingers without a problem. He won't even look at food when she offers it. Just just sits completely still unless she get's to close then he charges to scare her off. He's none to large maybe 2 feet. I never forced the tame issue with him. I did it slowly in the way a woman named Holly described in one of her posts. I basically let HIM tame me. He does as he wants.
