Juvenile Savannah w/ runny stool

DocThaStar Mar 04, 2007 02:37 PM

I have owned my savannah for a few weeks now, maybe a month. It's substrate is wood chips (temp until new enclosure arrives) and I had him under a UV bulb I got at wallmart (not sure on the wattage). When I got him he had only had crickets to eat and i gave him a few crickets that he did not seem interested in. I then began to feed him frozen pinkies. After 6 of them I went to get more and got live ones. After the frozen he would no longer take crickets and after the live he will no longer take frozen. Point of story, I changed his lamp today with a 105W from the pet store and about 15 minutes after I changed it he started acting uncomfortable and walking around a bunch so I watched him for a minute and he passed some all white runny stool (explosive diarrhea to be vulgarly blunt. I was just wondering if someone could give me some advise. I don't even mind rude advise I just want my monitor to be o'kay. plz help me

It sounds like a normal 'pee'. Gas is common, too.
One of the waste products of a sav is uric acid, a product of nitrogen catabolism in birds and reptiles, which is white. They pass this with a certain amount of 'water' as a normal process. Sometimes it is expelled with the feces and sometimes by itself.
You will see the white stuff in the form of lumps that can be crumbled easily. (i sometimes have to push a bit lump down the drain when mine do it in the bathtub)

Thank you so much for making me feel better lol. Only thing is now he has had the new substrate for a few days and refuses to eat mice he just shakes his head and walks away. I feed him usually in an empty tub but I even tried to add some water in the tub but he still won't eat. Guess I'll try again tomorrow.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

Feed him inside of his cage, not in a plastci container, the extra stress of being moved is probally why he is refusing food. Read the FAQ about it on ProExotics site.
