Housing Questions

Okay, so after doing my research and looking at a million pictures, i'm kindof confused on where the temp/humidity should be. and same for the substrate. some people have deserty enclosures while others have their monitors on dirt in more of a jungle enviroment. WHAT IS THE NATURAL WAY THEY LIVE?!?! ha.

DESERT? or JUNGLE background too?

I just got a baby savannah and its about 6" from the head to the tip of the tail. i have it on carpet right now and i mist it once or twice a day to keep the humidity up around 60-70. is that too high?

also, my sav is in a 55 gal. tank which is pretty tall and there are 2 150watt bulbs shining down. my temp only seems to reach about 80 at about 12 inches from the bottom. that seems a little chilly. So if i went to the department store and picked up 2 50 watt halogen lights, would that make it warmer?

Lastly, should i get a 5.0 uvb bar bulb? or an 8.0? and do they even really need UVB?

THANKS A BUNCH,
Matt

Savannah= Grassland
Look it up and get a feel for what it is like.
Burrows for cool and humidity to keep from drying out. HOT, HOT sun.

Doing what you are doing you are just basting the baby to bake it in that 55 gal oven. It needs DIRT. It needs heat but the ability to get out of the intense 130 hot spot you will give him.
Misting him is not a good idea. If he is dehydrated it is from the oven and you need to change that. Misting him will give him pneumonia.
No UV....whole prey food (crix and other bugs now and work up to pinkies and mice and rats as he grows) HOT spot and dirt. And he needs out of the 55 and into a dirt filled enclosure without a screentop for all the heat to go out and take the humidity with it.
