Laid back monitor?

CHPitt May 21, 2008 07:56 PM

I recently acquired a very young savanna monitor (about 3-4 inches) and believe me i have done my research so i wont be asking what to feed them =)

anyway from what i have read in the forums it seems that most babies are pretty flighty and tend to bite and hiss. Mine is not at all like that, hes very relaxed unless there is a cricket in the cage which in that case he goes hay wire. But my question was that is my monitor just relaxed or could there be some underlaying problem. I have checked the temps and they are normal. Hes not lethargic when you hold him. he seems alert and tongue flicking, unless i woke him. (which he doesn't appreciate, i have been hissed at for that.

Thanks for reading.

Hi!
Take a few minutes to read the 2nd thread below this one, especially my post in that thread. Be sure to follow the two links I posted and read those threads, too.

Here are the two links:
forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=1511176,1511176
forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=1515631,1515631

Particular point of interest to you is within the first link, about halfway down the thread, there's a member by the name of "cinderellawkids" that posted about their sav being mellow to them. I told them to quit terrifying it by petting/handling it and watch it come alive.

Seven days later they started a new thread with the title: "ferocious wild animal." Their sav finally felt secure enough to be itself. Don't worry, they calm down over time, and the time is well worth the wait.

Read the 2nd thread below this one and the two threads in the links I gave. There's a lot of good info in them, and from more than just one person.

Take care!
HH
