Help! My hog isn't eating

ninj726 Sep 09, 2008 04:31 PM

I feed him a pinkie once a week, but he's not showing any interest in it today. It's the same size as the one I fed him last week. do their eyes turn blue when they shed? Cuz I've had him about a month now and he hasn't shed yet... that was my only guess y he's not eating. Please help!

Their eyes do turn blue towards the end of their shedding process. They clear up and the skin turns "back to normal", just with a slight fade. Expect a shed a day or two after this happens.

Don't panic if your hog didn't feed. It's normal if its in the shedding process. If not, try again in a couple of days. How are the temps?

It's a ten gallon tank. I have a heat pad on one side. room temp is about 80 where he's at, so I'd guess his heat pad makes it about 85 on the warm side of the cage.

ive had hogs go months without food and not loose a single gram. when they go off feed out of shed cycles sometimes wait a few weeks just to let them get nice and hungry but don't worry a hog can go months with a tiny meal and be perfectly fine just make sure they nice fresh drinking water.

I had an late 07' 10g female go 4 months without feeding, lost 1g. She now never refuses a meal, and is now more then 70g!

Also, hogs shed very infrequently compared to other snakes. I also suspect your heat pad is raising it to more than 85, not that that is a bad thing.
