how nutrtional are butterworms and could they be used as the primary food item for a young water monitor

First I'd try some and see if your monitor likes them. I went out and spent $10 on 50 of the little buggers once for my leopard geckos, and they wouldn't touch them. Big waste of money. There's definitely cheaper things a monitor can grow up eating.
