A little early, but...

How early do the experts here begin brumating their Pueblans and Hondos? Also, what are the most successful temperature and humidity parameters for these species? Is it customary to brumate all in the collection, or only those being bred the following season? Thanks for any suggestions!

Brad

PS: my "oopsie" hypo apricot x hypo apricot egg is due any day now -- will keep posted with pictures!

Hey Brad,

I don't put mine down into brumation until mid November, but that's partially because I am dependent on cooler weather outside for this to work. I put my adults in the basement of the house and it really doesn't get cold enough until Dec for a good brumation.

I only put the adults into brumation and try to keep the juvies up to keep feeding them. However, I know several people that just brumate their entire collection so that part's really up to you.

Where do you live? The only way you'll be able to brumate sooner than winter is by having a good temp controlled room in your house with a window AC unit or wine cooler or something where you can manipulate consistently cool temps.

Good luck!

Dave

PS with respect to peublans, I have brumated them in a spare bedroom closet before with temps only getting as low as the low 60s and got a good clutch from them.

I have a dedicated dorm-size fridge with a thermostat -- it can be turned down into the 50s, I was thinking of using something like that, I just need to get the settings right first. Thanks for the info! I'm looking forward to that not-so-black black milk hatchling. Just a few more weeks, eh?

PS - My pueblan clutch is at day 71!
