Golden Greek Set up

turtlemix21 May 23, 2003 09:39 PM

Hi I currently have 3 golden greeks, 1 male and 2 females. I am trying to find the best indoor set up until the weather breaks and I can put them out for the summer. They are currently in a 4x2 1/2 acrylic tank. I currently have the entire outside of the enclosure covered by dark paper so they can not see thu and try to dig out, and hurt themsleves. They are also on Critter country bedding. They have 2 dome heat lights and 1 uvb bulb. is there a different substrate they they would do better on?? I would like to try to get them to breed this summer. All help is greatly appreciated. thanks Matt

It sound like you are doing just find. Lots of "tortoies geeks" would say don't use any tanks. You can use tortoise tables. EJ can help with how to make them. For wibnter housing I use rubbermaid tubs. Air flow and quality is important to greeks. So I change my litter as offten as possible. I also scoop any poop and urine asap. The litter I use is cypress mulch.
Have you had them checked for internal parisites? I use Panacur and Flagil.
Good luck with breeding! Let me know if you have any luck.
Also check out the Tortoise Trust web site. Do a search for "Golden Greeks". You should find some good info.

There is a care sheet for Golden Greeks at The World Chelonian Trust site - just go to the link below and click on "Care sheets"
