A question on size

coheed196 Sep 10, 2008 08:37 AM

I've never owned any monitor or tegu, I keep bearded dragons, leos, and chameleons but would like to own a monitor or tegu. I know they both require large cages (which im used to with beardies) but I dont have a bedroom to devote to a lizard so I was wondering which of all the species is the smallest or requires the least amount of space?

If you're worried about having a too big of an enclosure then a dwarf monitor would be your best bet. They still do require fairly good sized enclosures though. 5x4x4 atleast.

Monitors and tegus are similar in some ways but are not related at all.

Think hard and do your research before buying anything.

There are many dwarf species out there, but ackies and storrs are awesome, storrs are smaller.
Tegus are a relative of the whiptail, the amevia, etc, a new world lizard, nowhere related in any way to the old world monitors. There are many differences in husbandry, but many similarities, do research beforehand.
