What is the best time of the night

onthefly Sep 10, 2008 09:22 AM

What is the best time of the night to find snakes on the road, I herd that after a summer rain is best, but is it at sunset or later in the night?

Thanks

IME (Recently) about the period after twilight. I haven't struck out YET just walking the biking trail here in Ellis Co., Tx. As soon as its FULLY dark seems to be when everything is on the move..

that's been my experience too - right after dark. carl kauffeld said there was a noticeable decrease in activity after midnight. also, don't overlook solunar periods. (seriously)

Wasn't Kauffeld the guy that suggested sitting on the car hood while your buddy drove ?

That actually works pretty well on some of the quiker species of snakes (masticophus). Your buddy hits the brakes and you have a running start. lol

yeah, but sometimes you slide off on top of a rattlesnake . . .
