Swollen GB eggs

sn8kesrule Sep 11, 2008 08:03 AM

I have 2 clutches due any day now, some of the eggs that were bury in substrate have swollen and one has split. Is there a chance of these eggs hatching? I have uncovered them and dried it out a bit, sounds like I had it too wet from what I have read on this and other forums. Drier is better. These eggs are the result of breeding a Dan Johnson male and 2 Dave douherty females. Hopefully I will be posting pics soon.

Sounds like you know the likely cause of the issue, they were too wet.

I am not sure about that Lance? I incubated very dry this year and i had one clutch that was swollen and some of them split like the O/P mentioned.. I had a few other clutches incubating in the same box and they all looked normal through incubation.

The clutch has since hatched and all but one of the babies hatched out fine. One died fully formed in the egg.

I am not saying your wrong, i am just saying that it may not be totally due to the eggs being too wet??

Thanks for the responses guys. I do have an answer to the question " will swollen eggs hatch?" YES!!!! 12 out of 16 hatched while I was away for 4 days. Haven't given up on the others yet. Will post pics, one is very interesting.
