Are these babies hypo?

whitneywee Sep 11, 2008 03:35 PM

Had a litter 2 days ago which was a hypo male X normal female, not known to be a het. Over half the babies are lighter, and I'm wondering if the mother was an unknown het or if this is normal variation. What do you think? Mark Hauge

Hey Mark,

They look better cleaned up than the slimey pics you sent me. Yes they are looking hypo, Should really show with first shed, that's when you'll know for sure they are hypo and not just really light colored babies.

IMO they are hypo - congrats!!!

Mark,
...Congratualtions! I think that they are so markedly lighter than the normal looking litter mates that they have to be hypo. PICs after they shed would be greatly appreciated. Where did the female come from?
Jeff

Jeff - I don't know the precise background of the female. I bought a group from a man in South Florida last year that included the hypo male, an anery male, and 4 females between 3 and 5 years. All the females are very nice, but he made no mention that any were possible hets, and I believe he would have said so if he knew. I paired 2 females with each male, and I'm glad that this female happened to be with the hypo rather than the anery. I know he got at least some of his animals from EBV, but I don't know exactly. Major Congrats! The lighter ones, that should be hypo's, have some great marking to boot!

I believe I thought about buying these ssame snakes, but it was right at the time my wife quit working to spend more time with the kids. I believe you have an Anery from the TC line and it would be very interesting to see if it id compatible with the Brian Sharp line. I do not think there are too many Sharp het females out there, but they would make a great combo.

TC as in Tom Chiang? If that's the case, let me know if you get any hets this year (ChristyMelton17@gmail.com). I'd love to get some step siblings. I have an anery male from that line and 4 of his 66% poss het sisters. I'd love to get some "new genes."
