Mystery Black Pastel

LadyOhh Sep 11, 2008 03:39 PM

Well, about a month or so ago, I hatched out a very very strange Black Pastel female.

The clutch was a bad one, and she was the only survivor.

I asked a whole bunch of people what she could be.

Here are the pics.

I brought her with me to Anahiem, and a LOT of people really liked her.

Looks like the answer is out there... Any guesses?

Heather,

There you go teasing me again with pics of that girl. The only guess I can offer you is for you to go ahead and let me take her off your hands LoL.

The question is...Is it a RA/BP or is it a het RA/BP..Were both parents blackbacks?..or are we dealing with similar genes like the bel complex has going...I tried to reproduce burgundys this year with no luck. However the "het" burgs appear to have the same markings as Anthony mentions below...Which may put it up to three genes that could interact, one way or another.

done babbling now...awesome snake!

Post pics of the parents please, but I think I agree the "hash" marks around the alien spots are alot like Het Reds. One could easily think that when a Het Red lines up with a Black Pastel or Cinny that is would turn out similiar to a Pewter.. I say this based on the comparison of a Pastel Het Red to a Pewter, you get very similiar results when a Pastel is added to those 2 morphs.. Anthony McCain..

Go look at clutch 56 from RDRs birthing records...

Yes they do line up - looks like the cinny/black pastel and now het red gene just got more complex....

Looks like an axanthic black pastel to me.

Looks like a het red axanthic black pastel. Red axanthics are known for those little light moustache markings. Someone just hatched some cinny het reds that look very similar

Wow Heather,I'd say thats one wicked black pastel anx, You never told Me about that Girl. Breed her to a Lav and hold back all the babys like her. Or breed her back to her father and see if He has something ......... I need to talk with You soon , Congrats on that baby Girl.

I saw "Little Blackie" at Anaheim. She is very pretty and not a Black Pastel!! I would her back to dad, or to a Het Red and see what you get. Nice animal Heather -- Good luck with her.

Looks like a het Red or RA/Black pastel. Just the suttle markings like the jagged tail stripe and broken eye stripe with nose spots resembles the RAs. All the other markers are obvious like the color/pattern.

The other thing I have noticed with reds is that het Reds bred to norms look less like RA to normal offspring. Offsping from RAs to normals have the more intracate patterns simular to BPs with the dark bands lining the inside of the "donuts or alien heads" as some people call them.

So, its also possible like someone else said the trait can be compatible in some way. A het red x black pastel may be its own weird super or even crazier. Kinda like the compatibility with all the white snakes.

Ralph just hatched a super cinny X het red clutch. They look like red axanthics to me.....

That is one cool animal, Heather. I remember her from the show and it looks like there is something extra going on in her. You'll have to keep us updated on what happens when you grow her up and breed her.
