Off to the vet we go!!!!!!

Argentines Sep 11, 2008 11:18 PM

Tomorrow at 5:30pm. I just noticed it today but her eye looks all jacked up. I caught it in the light today as i was handling her. She shed on 9/5 and looks nothing like a cap from what ive seen. Almost like the lens is crushed in. SCARY !!!!! My Baby. And no, shes been eating f/t since 05 so no need to ask. Huh, I kinda hope its like when i rush my kids to the ER. Spend 6 hrs waiting, another 2 for the doctor. Another 2 for results and he says they will be ok, just go home and give them some OTC Robitussin. Freakin doctors.

Anyways ill let you know when i know.......

No need for a vet on this I am sure. I have seen this NUMEROUS times where the eye cap is dimpled in. I haven't seen it as often on boas as I have pythons but it generally works itself out.

Now i see you say you are sure. But how does this happen. How long does it last. The vet was sure anxious to get her in saying how bad it could be. I hope for the best....I havnt had any probs with her in 3 years. Should i at least go for a "wellness check"?

Could be anything from squeezing the head between the water bowl and the body, to scratching an itch up against the side of the cage and dimpling it in. I have personally seen it dozons of times and it ALWAYS worked itself out in a few days or at most by the next shed. You can go to the vet if you wish (many are more "cautious" than I am) but you will probably not get much in the way of help there except to say to wait it out. You may try making sure the humidity is adequate for the species you keep as dehydration seems to promote this kind of thing but insn't always the cause.

Good luck with that snake.

I agree with Dank...happens to mine often. I guarantee that if I walk in the snakeroom right now, at least three with have dimpled eyes from squeezing between the cage and water dish. Others it happens to during shedding. I find that upping the humidity helps.

This sounds like a humidity issue. Try misting the cage more often and by the next shed it should work itself out.
