Also a beauty. How can you tell the difference between the e.c. gaigei and e.c. barbouri? She looks like an older snake, do you know her age?
I like it when you post your "other" rainbows. Thanks!

Julie,
...She does look very much like some of my Peruvians except that where they have sleek heads she and my other barbouri have shorter fatter heads. The reclassification of these two subspecies and Brazilians together seems like it is a done deal.

Jeff,
Do you have any more details on the reclassifications?
Thanks,
Ed

Lumping them together with BRB is a shame IMO.

I just love it when you post those snakes. They're so pretty, great color, I love the thick black pattern and they have such pretty faces. Every time a see "peruvians" listed, I have a look and think "nope, not as nice as Jeff's". I wish I'd known you were going to sell one at Daytona, I'd have been very tempted to have it arrive at the show with a "sold" sticker on it!
Seeing them makes me wonder just how many red BRB have a little Peruvian in the woodshed, know what I mean?

Julie,
...I took the Peruvian to Daytona to show it off more than to sell it. The price seemed pretty high to me but there were several people considering buying it. Some of them were more interested in the color than the fact that it was a real Peruvian. With five more females getting big enough to breed this coming season I "should" have some Peruvian babies to sell next summer. I do have a couple Peruvians that are orange rather than red and even one red male and one orange male that are very plain. Counting scales is difficult. If it wasn't I would ask everyone I know with Rainbow Boas to count scale rows on all their animals. I am sure there would be some Brazilians with lower scale counts and I know because I have counted scales on them that many people's "Peruvians" have high scale counts.

Julie,
I feel the same way. Especially when the brb's have the same thicker black borders as well. They have to have been bred together both knowingly and unwittingly in this hobby.
Looking back I believe I bred a Peruvian to a brb in early 2000.
I am not sure as I do not have any of the snakes anymore, but looking back at one of the redder ones with the black borders make me believe so. I am sure it has happened many times, they are so similar in appearance it wouldn't take much to make such an error.
I have seen some posted by Dave and Aubrey that Jeff asked them to scale count for him.
As soon as I looked at those same snakes the very same thought crossed my mind as well. They look to be Peruvians.
