red headed kraits?

cerastes82 Sep 05, 2003 10:07 PM

I was curious if anyone was keeping or breeding these successfully in north america? I've found little information on their husbandry and almost as few photos. If anyone has any photos or info on them I'd appreciate it. I don't currently keep elapids but these have always fascinated me.

p.s. Is it true that they are more irasicble/ difficult to work with then other types of kraits. I've heard them compared to african naja in terms of behaviour.

They need to be kept very cool, lots of moss and such, and they actually will take eels for food. They are a strange beast. Bugger all is known about them but (if the lack of cross-reactivity between the other species is any indication) its unlikely any of the krait antivenoms would be much help.

Cheers
