Released Today...

Picked this little guy up about 10 days ago. Buddy called for me to pick this snake up that he pinned with a stick crossing his driveway and put in a bucket. He was worried about this snake biting his toddler...meh.

Unfortunately, he tore a hole in it's side. Didn't look like he tore any organs or major blood vessels, so I just applied Neosporin on the little guy every other day and it healed nicely.

Took the family out to a park out near my buddies house, found a nice wooded area near a creek LOADED with small frogs, and cut it loose.

My kids caught about 30 or so frogs and tossed them up along the creeks edge where I let it go, and it FEASTED... I'm sure it'll do great in that spot!

Such a great feeling to not have to worry about whether or not that I'm releasing a rescued critter somewhere it will thrive...

That's great. Good to see there are still little hogs out there. I haven't seen one here in SW La. for a few years. I'm not seriously looking though. When I was a kid in Pa. my brother and I would go to cape henlopen Del. The eastern hogs were very numerous around the sand dunes. Don't know if they are still in that area, have not been back in twenty years. Thanks for story.

Thanks Matt.

I'd like to call that guy a lifer for me, but since I didn't actually find it, I don't think I can call it that...

Guys- can we please get a ruling on this one? (Todd/Joe/Dan?)

Well, I'm not Todd/Joe/Dan, but I'll give you my $0.02 anyway. Since you were not actively herping at the time and it was found by someone else in an urban setting - no dice. Not ny my rules, anyway.

Great job on the rescue, though! I'm sure he'll do great.

Are you still coming to AZ this year Todd, or did I miss it!?!

Diego- no worries, and that's what I was thinking, too.

I usually come out over Memorial Day weekend, but I didn't go, because I was recovering from major abdominal surgery- ice hockey would've KILLED me in the state I was in!

Next year, buddy!

1/2 credit for the rescue and recovery, you gotta find 'em or be with the finder at the time of discovery, imo.

Todd, did you get a shot of the injury before treatment? Great job on that one, see, you are seeing all the snakes of Texas, one by one! Wait till you get near the end of the list to the super hard ones!!!

No- there wasn't much to see, except a small tear in it's side. No blood or anything- just a clear ooze.

It was tough just applying the neosporin because it obviously was sensitive area- I got bit several times.
