Shed Question

lilman Sep 14, 2008 09:02 PM

My male shed yesterday and had a little blood on the skin(sheded skin) near the vent. Has anyone ever seen this? Should i take him to the vet.?

Unless the blood loss is excessive it is nothing to worry about. Males sometimes do have small amounts of blood in their shed. Usually it is only a few drops at most. Every year around breeding season at least one or two people ask this question. It seems that the bleeding animal tends to be a male.

I suspect that it happens more often than most breeders realize, but it gets noticed more often during breeding season because we are paying more attention to the minute details during this time.
