Ball Python Feeding Question

petie11o5 Sep 15, 2008 04:36 PM

Hey I just bought a baby pastel and I went to feed him today, and he is almost scared of the hopper and will not eat. The guy i bought him from told me he has only eaten once and did warn me that he might be hard to feed. I tried a live and dead hopper and he still wont eat. The live hopper just seemed to scare him. The last time he ate was on the 7th of September. Do you guys know any tips or tricks I could try to get him to eat?

There are a whole host of feeding tips. Do a Google search on Ball Python feeding. Lots out there. The key is to not panic and stress the snake out. As long as they have good body mass, you should be ok.

#1 - do you have the basics covered? Shelter, hide, temp, humidity, etc.

Also, I don't know what you mean by just got him..
Have you given him anytime at all to settle in? He may be stressed about being in a new place. If you havent already, you probably should at least give him a few days to settle in first.
Just my opinion.

Just be patient. I recently bought a baby female ball from a friend. It took 3 weeks for her to finally eat for me. Just keep offering it to her every 3 or 4 days. once she's hungry enough, she'll eat. Good luck.
