why is my baby so skinny?!?!

falafal4ever Sep 05, 2003 10:55 PM

bah! im getting really worried. my aquafire seems too skinny to me. you can see the bones on his tail between his rear legs, is that normal? none of my other lizards have that. also, my collared jumps around alot when i mist him, he is not running from the mist but just freaking out in general, climbing to the highest point he can. do you think his breeder used a misting system only? do collared respond well to standing water generally? ive had hannibal (my collared) for like 6 months now, but i worry about him still. sigh...

if you do he is thin and could be fattened up! As far as misting I only do it, to aid in their shedding, helps then to get their old dry skin off much quicker, a few squirts that it. And then I dont mist until they shed again. Mine HATE to be misted ! They also try and get away from the water. Have you offered wax worms, or superworms? They seem to fatten them up. Others try pinky mice, NOT ME, ask someone else about that , I don't go there. :0( Anyway try different things. Was he wc? if he was sometimes it takes time for them to acclimate to captivity ! They dont eat well, and lose weight. But dont allow him to lose to much. Eve

no i havnt checked for worms... i thought he was captive bred, but now im not so sure... looks like he's gonna be going to the vet! i do give him wax worms and meal worms almost weekly in an attempt to fatten up. i think that i will try and get him a new cage for himself too incase he is being shy. sigh, thanks
