how long till this smell goes away?

kyleherp Sep 15, 2008 09:43 PM

I got my boaphile cage about a month ago and i have noticed that "boaphile" posts messages on the forum. Anyway, I have tried to get into contact with the people with boaphile by phone messages with no luck. I have also read on the net about the smell that is in cage when you take it out of its box. Everyone says to just let it air out. I have let it air out for two weeks now, also washed it with bleach water and dawn dish soap with the smell still showing up when i open the cage after the night is passed. I just purchased the cage, know heating or anything special. Just wondering if anyone knows of anything that will remove this darn smell. My chondros need their cage

Thanks
Kyle

I noticed the smell from the tape that Jeff uses to keep the doors shutduring shipping, not from the cage itself. I clean mine with a diluted bleach solution right after taking them out of the box. Let them sit outside for a few hours. Then I spray them with Provent a mite, let them sit a few more hours outside, then I'm good to go. No odors...ready for my critters.

I have tried a water bleach mix with no luck. When i leave the cage doors open the smell is not there, but if I close them and then open them the next morning it smells like glue or sylicone in the cage. And this is not just a weak smell, it is still pretty strong.

Thanks

answers calls during business hours listed on his site or calls back immediately. I don't know anyone who has trouble reaching him unless by email. Give it another try!

Thanks, I did that and Jeff told me to put heat in the cage to help the glue smell coming from the glue stop faster. Hopefully this works. Thanks for all the help Guy and Gal

I've called him 50 times during business hours, with no answer and no voice mail. Try it now and see what you get.

I did call him and he did answer. He told me to heat the cage up and wait till the smell goes away. SO far this has not started to work but i trust him because he has been doing this for a long time. So hopefully?
