Reptile Shed

jeffharding Sep 16, 2008 11:48 AM

Just thought I would post some pics from my new 10'x8' reptile shed. It is housing a Savannah Monitor and madagascar hissing roaches. My Salmon Boa will be moved out there soon and more pics to come as it gets completed. Thanks to all who answered my 100 questions during construction. Sorry for the quality of the pictures, I took them with my camera phone

Thanks for the pictures. Let us know how the Reflectix works out. I've never used it for what you're doing exactly and I'll be curious to hear how it does.

It has already closed the temperature range inside of the shed from 65-105 to 70-85. Adding the lights from the monitor cage, it retains the temperature longer as well. There are still 2 odd-shaped pieces of insulation I have to install, but with enough foil tape, it should be completely sealed. I will need to see how the temps fare during the nights of So Cal winter months.

Not surprised it's working so well. What was the highest temperature outside when the shed was holding an interior temp. of 85*?

If you do have problems in the winter you may need to start with the floor. I have heard of guys taking 1.5" pink or blue polystyrene insulation and glueing it down to the plywood floor. Then place another layer of plywood over the insulation and screw through that and into the lower layer of plywood. Evidently it makes for a fairly sturdy floor. You could add framing to make it more sturdy but I gather it's not necessary.

The outside temps were alot cooler about the time I installed the insulation. Outside temps were less, probably 75-80 when it was 80-85 inside. It used to get to 105 with outside temps in 85-90. I thinkit was a great investment

Those houses in the background, it looks like the South Bay (Redondo, etc). Am I close?
