Baby Cricket Surprise..?

Kuitsuku Sep 16, 2008 05:37 PM

This morning while changing the water in my gecko's cage I noticed small bugs moving around. I immediately thought they were pests that snuck in, but to my surprise...they were baby crickets! Has this ever happened to anyone before? I clean the cage weekly and I recently changed (and cleaned) out their moss area.
I must admit though, these crickets are adorable.

yes, that has happened to me. I admit I occasionally forget to clean the log half hide she has, and I think the crickets laid eggs on it.
I didnt even see them at first until my daughter asked me what they were, then I had to get my glasses on..LOL

I used to use the alfalfa pellets as bedding in my breeding tank. The mealworms would get out, and at first, I was adamant about digging through the bedding to pull them out. It was annoyingly tedious so as you can imagine, I started leaving them there. Not long later, beetles started appearing. So, as you can imagine, I'd find more little mealworms later.

I'm telling this story because I had one leo who was a very smart girl. She would actually dig through the bedding to find her food. None of the others did it, and I had nearly 20. Elvira was truly unique. It make me happy that I didn't dig all those mealworms out, or change the bedding because of the annoyance the mealworms were causing me at first.
