Have heard several times that this is a good alternative for substrate. Not sure where to purchase it though. Any suggestions?

I wish i knew as well. But Red Rosin paper works great. gbo of the retic world got me hooked on it years ago. You can get it from Home Depot or Menards for around $15. It comes in 3' x 150' rolls. Its an ugly red but it does the job!

My uncle used to work for the washington post. He said most newspapers will sell (or sometimes give away)what remains unprinted. It might be worth checking your local paper printing place.

ANY moving supply store. It's the same stuff that people wrap their china and plates in when they move. Try to stay away from the big name places (the ones that start with "U-H***) their sheets are WAYY too small to be useful and they're way overpriced. I pick up 1000 24X36" sheets for around $40.

Locate a local newspaper or printing press that prints flyers. Call them and ask if they use offset printing. If they do, they should have roll ends or 'butts'that are left over from the huge rolls of paper they print from. They are unable to use up the entire roll and switch over when there is like a half an inch or so on the roll. This equates to a hundred yards of paper or more. Many places give them away (I got them for my kids to draw on) or they may charge like 3-5 dollars per roll.
