How long does it take to pip?

bwaffa Sep 17, 2008 11:12 AM

My 1-egg pueblan clutch is at day 76, and the egg has been steadily dimpling since Saturday night, 4 days ago. I thought I would have seen pipping by this point, but so far not so much as a single slit in the egg. The shell is becoming slightly discolored and I'm worried that maybe I should have windowed it a few days ago. How long does it take to go from dimpling to pipping? At what point should I panic and give the dorsal apex a last-ditch window?

Thanks for whatever help you can offer.

Brad

Now that you've posted about it, it'll be pipped later today
