Food Help...Please!!

Xave Sep 17, 2008 02:55 PM

I have a 16 month old beardie named Spike and our family loves CRICKETS are the problem. The chirping drives everyone crazy, the heat kills them to fast outside, and they are sometimes getting attacked by ants in my backyard. It's just money down the drain. I have tried other live foods (phoenix worms and wax) Spike will not touch them. He eats his veggies fine, but I can not do the crickets much longer, it's just to much hassle. Any help please.

Feed off all the male crickets first.. Male crickets wont have the long black ovicompositor coming out of their back ends. Males are the ones that chirp.

But, waxworms (not good as staple anyway) and phoenix worms are far from the only foods available for bearded dragons. Roaches, as already mentioned, superworms, silkworms, hornworms and butterworms are also good.

As an adult, he doesn't need alot of insects every day, just a few daily or a couple meals a week of insects, is fine.
