I always assumed it was a super hypo that was also 50% hog island but someone recently said that the word sunset only refers to the original bloodline used to make that cross. I guess its up to the person that coined the term

As far as I know- a sunset cross is: salmon and hypo hogg.
a sunset is super salmon hypo hogg.

I don't think that a hypo(the strain which isn't salmon) would end up producing the same effect of orange coloration.

Of course there's always the possibility for super salmon super hogg hypo- these have no unique name to themselves.

I used to think that sunset only refers to the super form of both traits, but it refers to just one.

The key , to me is that they are 50%, or 75% Hog - wether it be a HypoHog, or the super form (aka Sunset). I don't believe that their is a so-called super form of Hog, just like their are no super form of Pastels, or highly colored Colombians.
To me any Hypo x Hog will make HypoHogs, but if you take a nicely colored Hypo, and a Good colored Hog, they'll produce the HypoHog babies that will be able to make the Supers often times called Sunsets. Their is no question which ones are the Supers --------

I am either misunderstanding you or you're mixing the genes. Super salmon(hypo) is -not- the same gene as HypoHogg- they do not sit on the same Locus.
We're talking about two separate traits here. It -is- possible to be Super HypoHogg.
If the Boa is Super Salmon -and- is HypoHogg- it's a sunset.
The fact that it's a different type of Hypomelanism was proven when it was successfully inherited unto offspring even when a Hogg Isle Boa was bred to a classic BCI.

Your pictures exemplify the differences visible between super salmon and salmon.

After reviewing your message I think it was a mutual misunderstanding.

Super Salmon Hypo Hogg(to any degree)=sunset.

As far as I know, super hogg hypo is possible. It may not be visible- but it does effect the potency of said snake's genetic makeup as a breeder... guaranteed to pass said gene on

I would contact DM Breeders for complete clarification...

The Sunset is a line of boas that consistantly produces a Hypo Hog cross that has blazing orange reds and yellows.

Not all Hypos are created equal!

That is the most important thing to remember for any project!
