They shouldn't be too bad as a treat. My only concern would be if they expand too much and make the animal bloated.

My girlfriend Patty has fed mine on occasion everything from Cheese Doodles to Lasagna when I'm not watching. It hasn't hurt them and she's been doing it for years......TC

The old owner had cats and let him roam free part of the day, I assume he would chow on cat food because when he sees a bag of cat food he goes nuts. I know its not good but is there a safe alternative as a treat?

Mine would eat dog food every chance he got. He would actually wait for me to leave, and my wife would always catch him going to the kitchen and eating the dog food. I know some on this forum feed bread on occasion, although mine doesn't really get into it. Is there a reason you want to feed him treats other than fruit? in the end, a piece of fruit is what he wants more than anything (in my case).

Hi, my rhino does this when she is out. Even when I picked up the cat food off the floor years ago she figured out it was on the kitchen table and can manage to get up there. For evidence see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6LVwR0mRIY

Anyway, a couple of times when I see what she is doing I have replaced the cat food with a dish of Mazuri tortoise pellets. If iguanas can have a "look" on their face she did. She was like WTF. But picked at it anyway since she likes the pellets.
