Back to life

Well, after five days without power, It finally came back up yesterday afternoon! After a long cold week my collareds warmed up fast and had a big party! I fed them a handful of crickets and grasshoppers and they all munched away. Even my picky eater had a feast leaping across the tank and chasing down his dinner. I even saw some posturing with them on their tippy toes, backs arched and heads bobbing. I think they were excited to have their heat and lights back on. I think these guys are finally settling into their digs and feeling at home. I celebrated with a pot of coffee and a hot shower!

Hayseed, where are you???? Are you in the Hou/Gal area?

Our power came back on while we were on our way back. We had evacuated, and this area took a direct hit from Hurricane Ike. The house is miraculously FINE! Units two doors down either way did not fair so well. I am having to dump water from tanks in the wildlife room and this general area is a big mess. There is widespread structural damage and downed trees everywhere. There is a food and gas shortage, and about 80 percent of the area is still without power. We were so lucky. Galveston Island and surrounding is a catastrophic disaster.

My lizards, except for the special needs lizards, are still in Austin, and I miss them terribly! I am going back to get them on Sunday.

Hi! No, I'm in southern Ohio, near Dayton. Of course, we had nothing like you had. I can only imagine how difficult it has been for you all. But I'm amazed how much trouble Ike has caused all over. The remnants of Ike took a turn towards Indiana and Ohio. An enormous number of people in southern Ohio have been without power for a week now. This has been a huge pain in the neck for us, but nothing like what you have had. It's been an interesting reminder to us that we all take so many things for granted, like electricity!

I'm glad to here your babies are safe in Austin. Austin Texas is one of my favorite places in the whole world! I've had some great times there!

Yeah, this storm, which was technically a cat 2, one mph short of a cat 3, did more damage in this area alone than Alicia, which was a cat 3. Then you add in the damage nation wide, and it is amazing! I heard that our northern neighbors got damage from it, but I have been so focused on survival that I couldn't really take it in. And it didn't want to die! The day after the storm, while the bigger part of it was hitting yall, the tail was still dumping heavy rain, and there were high water rescues in areas well inland because of the dang tail!

We are just so lucky! We were hit hard in this area, and yet we have evacuees from Galveston. BTW, FEMA still has kinks in the system to work out.

yeah i live in illinois and we got three days straight of rain and we are still having flooding problems in a lot of areas. some rivers flooded, and washed over their banks and it made alot of areas disaster areas. but hey glad you came out unscathed. hope you get your guys back soon.
