Hard work really does pay! DUW

RioBravoReptiles Sep 19, 2008 02:16 PM

.. I was working early today down by the Rio Grande fixing a lake-crossing bridge. Here's the road in..
.

.
This is a look at the west end of the bridge.. the lake is (mostly) dry now and I took advantage of that to drive my Chevy down in there.
.

.
.. one of the problems (before and after)
.

.

.
.. anyway.. now you see it..
.

.
.. and now you don't!
.

.
It's a good thing I got these other photos..
.

.

.
.. that pretty snake has a lot of the looks of Dyrmarchon rubris. The spot I am working is as far south as you can physically be in Texas.. She came out and stuck her nose in a pile of lumber I was making beside the lakebed. When things go right, they really go right!
.
As you may think.. that pretty snake is only the most recent neat animal I've encountered down over there.
.
Thanks for looking.
.

Gus, you really have the knack for being in the right place at the right time! I was there yesterday afternoon and saw only Cnemis and toadlets. How about the other 3 really hard to find snakes down there, seen any this year?

Well, I don't think there is more than maybe one hard-to-find snake in Cameron County (if you look in the right places at the right times) .. but if you'll give me a hint what it is you're referring to it's possible I can show a photo or two..
.
Have fun, be safe!

Drymobius, Masticophus shotti, Leptoderia serpentrionalis, but mostly the Speckled racers.

Some of the coolest snakes in the states right there! How often do you come across all those snakes, better yet how often do you look for them??

The trick is just to be out and about and forget about looking. Then they turn up!
