Basking Spot Light Question and Opinions Please!?!

Solomon Sep 06, 2003 03:29 AM

Just a question about light bulbs that should be used for a basking area. I already have proper UV lighting. The basking area is approx, 12 - 14" from the light. I'm using a 150 watt incandescent light right now that reaches a max of 100 F. I've also bought a Power Sun UV bulb, 160 watt, thinking it might raise the basking temp to 120, like I want but I have doubts. Has anyone used the ZooMed 150 watt halogen bulbs or Ceramic heat emmiters to achieve these temps? Which of the two gives off the most heat and would one of these two do the trick for me? Opinions appreciated.

Thanks in adavance.

My first thoughts are that the incadenscent light is the one that is the problem. You should be using a basking bulb for basking in order to get enough heat. Even tho the the incadescent light does give off some heat, they are more for "show" in bringing out their colors etc.

You also want to make sure that your UVB light has is giving off enough rays. I like the Reptisun 5.0 so that I get 7% out of it.

Just some ideas...

u have to use a 150 watt basking spot bulb over a basking rock, and don't use the reptisun 5.0 use the repti glo 8.0 from exo terra it gives off more uvb and uva rays, 8.0 says it all and it costs the same, its for reptiles with very high uv requirements and remember that the basking spot which means the surface where it heats up the most has to be 120 degrees not the overall air temps, they should be at 100 - 105, the basking spot should only be 115-125 only and the cool end could be at 80's and 90's, hope i helped

just so u know the exo terra repti glo 8.0 gives 33%uva and 8%uvb
