Why my snake die?

reupurtbones Sep 20, 2008 04:12 PM

I've kept snakes for several years, this ones puzzles me. I purchased a Brooks King about 2 months ago at a show. She was about 6 months old, good size, and in what seemed to be good health. I brought her home and she fed good. Everything seemed to be going well. A few weeks ago, I fed her, and then about 3 days later, got her out, she was noticable "sluggish." A few days passed, no change, and of course she wouldn't eat. About a week passed, she seemed to get a little spunkier, and she acutally fed. Two days later, she was dead. Everything was normal, temp, humidity, etc. ect. No mites, no resp. problems. I'm wondering if I had a mouse that was bad??? Any thoughts from anyone?

Sorry to hear about that, but the truth of the matter is without a full necropsy being done, there is absolutely no way on earth to know why this happened. Any guesses, are just that, guesses that don't really mean much.

If you really want to "KNOW" why, I would suggest you take the snake to a good reputable herp vet, this is the ONLY way you will know anything...period.

If it will be a while, you might want to put it in the fridge to protect the integrity of the tissues.

best regards, ~Doug
