Duct Tape on A Snake . . .

dbabi05 Sep 20, 2008 07:21 PM

Please don't make me feel too stupid here.

Somehow, duct tape got stuck to my snake. (Yes, I pretty much know how, but don't feel like explaining.) I happened to be on the phone with a friend when I discovered it. He was smart and quickly googled "what to do for duct tape stuck on a snake" and yes they actually had something on it. It said to use olive oil or mayonnaise on the tape to help it slide off. So far, it is not helping. Anyone, any ideas?

Olive oil, vegetable oil and mineral oil all work very well, but you have to just pour and dip it on the tape directly next to the snakes scales, and of course the rest of the tape too so it is no longer sticky(or cut the excess off). Constantly rub it in the immediate area with a "Q-Tip" also....and ALWAYS work it and gently pull in the direction of the scales(towards the rear) or you can EASILY injure the snake.

Why take it off at all ? Let him shed what you can't cut off. Is it on the cloaca or head ?

What is left is on her underside just below the head (want to say neck). I did use the olive oil and loosened some. All the excess I could safely cut away I did. I figured I would do just what you said and just wait for her next shed. Initially, it was a fairly large piece; that is what caused me the most concern.

Thanks so much for the advice, both of you!!!!
