Here is a photo of a canopy hood I built for a 120 gal aquarium that contains my painted turtle. I usually post in the painted turtle forum, but I figd Id share with cages too. So far Ive built the stand and the hood, and that thing to the left of the tank is gonna be a really big filter, still working on that tho. One thing I really like about this hood is that whenever I walk by, the turtle isnt jumping in the water all the time, since he cant see me unless I walk right up to it. I think this is much less stressful for the turtle. The basking light shown is temporary, I will be attaching an outlet to the hood soon.
