selecting babies

What traits do you all look for when picking/keeping hold backs babies. I plan on purchasing but I thought it would be a good idea to hear what others like in their snakes before just buying on what I think looks pretty

Look for color and crescents. The color will improve on most of them over the first 12 to 18 months. Sometimes dark babies become too dark and some light babies do stay too light. Crescents do not change much in shape as the snake grows but usually do get more colorful as the snake grows. A BRB that is too dark or too light as an adult will still look pretty if it has big bright crescents.

One other thing is intensity!! A baby with intense color will typically turn into an adult with intense color.

Most important is to get what you like. Most people like a nice deep red, or a bright orange, with clean crescents and contrasting saddles. I have one male that is really really dark with deep red undertones and I think he is gorgeous too. On these things, sometimes you just have to go with your gut and say "oooh! I like that one!"
