you have to have one in fl that sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have my license. The paperwork isn't difficult, but confusing. The state lumped some it together with the venomous license (which I also have)and some seperate.....and don't forget that all important $100.00 check you will need to send in. Don't be too surprised if they send it back the first time for incorrect answers on the questionaire (that has happened to most people I have talked to), just give them the answers they want you to write. It is followed up with an inspection as well from Fish and Wildlife (again just like venomous).
If you get stuck just send me an e-mail and I will try and help you through it.
But I wish more states would do this. I know you should have freedom to do what you want, but its the people that do not care that may up having them banned from everyone. Its good to see Fl doing somthing about it.

Not difficult at all.
It is long but all you need to do is print it out, there is part a b and c I think. You have to fuill out your inventory sheet of what roc you have, the questionairre and thats about it. You only have to send in inventory and Part A. Part B should be filled out but its your contigency plan that you have to show whn they inspect.
Its not hard, heres the link to the question form

If you cant answer the questions you probably dont know enough about the animal IMO.
As far as whether this is a good thing or not, I disagree. Personally I dont think its any of Floridas business what people have. Call me old school, but I have read the constitution many times. The ROC law was formed under false assumptions that people were letting their pythons loose in the Everglades and said pythons are now breeding. I guess it had nothing to do with hurricane Andrew and people having to abandon their pets which would be a big difference. If this logic were true, then it should only apply to those living in the southern tip of Florida since we get enough freezes/cold weather every where else to eliminate the possibility of these animals being able to survive as an invasive specie.
Sorry if this seemed as a rant, but I see our civil liberties eroding.

I am with you on most of that. However, There are a lot of fools out there that do let their pets go. Tell me how an aligator ends up in the Chicago River. Its not saying you can not have it, they just want to make sure you can keep it and if they do find it your in trouble. A responsible person like you or I would report this if you lost it. Because we love our hobby. Not everyone is like us. Some fool who buys a retic or burm at a show for 50 bucks and says ok it lost its luster and lets it go could care less what happens. So if they have to get a lic this should sway them away. It is a pain for you and I but if we get to keep buying them, then hey, who cares.
I never thought of the hurricane point, but I do not think that was the case.
No rant, just a disscussion.

Actually down here it is firmly believed by most (including myself)that the burms in the Everglades are directly linked to hurricane Andrew. I have no doubt that a few animals have been released or escaped, but these would be isolated incidents. There are not nor has there ever been droves of people heading to the swamp to free their pets. I also feel that if the state wants to focus in on harmful invasive species look into the problems with feral cats (the health risks and environmental impact is much greater with them). Now I'll get off my soapbox.
That would be an interesting finding if that was the case. There should be some type of questianiare then to see how many people had burms that they lost do to the canes. Although, on a side note, I did see a show where there are a lot of poisonious snakes down there like cobras and non native FL snakes. I think it had to do with someone shipping them. I could be wrong.
Good points though.

There was a study done a few years back. I don't recall the exact number, but over 100 homes were damaged or destroyed during Andrew that had permits for class 1,2, &3 wildlife. The media tends to blow these things out of proprotion (shocking)!
Exactly what I was saying. DK and I talked about this and its the most plausible explanation.
