the vicious corn....

soma215 Sep 21, 2008 12:04 AM

I was in Pestmart the other day picking up dog food and saw that an employee was staring hesitantly at an open cage w/ 3 small corns in it open. 'Nice corns' I remarked. 'Yeah, except for the orange one, he's vicious. He's bitten everyone in the department'. So I reached in & picked the corn up 'yeah, real killer you've got here'. I bit my lip to keep from laughing.
I asked a few more questions and found out that he was the same age as his cagemates, although he dwarfed them. The were not only feeding him f/t fuzzies, but had feeding records going back to May. I had to double check that I was still in Pestmart. Is it possible they've been listening for once?
Anyway, I ended up buying the little guy. The manager gave me a discount due to 'the vicious disposition.' One of his cagemates was an amel, and he's a lot more orange by comparison, I think he might be a sunglow. With the increased size, is it possible he's got some Emory blood in him?

when i saw the pic i thought it was a hybrid- so if the colors are smack on... i'd assume it was a hybrid... may not be.. but you never know buying from a petstore.

Looks like a creamscicle to me.

as the others said it does "look" like a creamsicle with the orange on yellow but I have seen some pretty orange amels.
The saddle count is around thirty which is more corn then emoryi but that doesn't mean a lot either. I have creams with anywhere from 28 to 38 saddles. You will never know with 100% certainty but just by coloration I would lean toward cream as well.
But our guesses are simply that, guesses

Thought I would take an opportunity to hijack this thread for a minute with a similar question. I have a corn that I purchased as amel-motley who has gotten much brighter as he has grown. Could I have stumbled into something else...sunglow/or cream?? Belly is white with no checkers at all. Any opinions would be appreciated!!!!

One of the main tendencies of the motley gene is to subdue belly checkering and side pattern, so it sounds and looks like yours is very nice, but quite typical of that form.

I'm going to agree. I think that what you have is a very pretty high orange amel motley. It doesn't look like it has emoryi in it at all.
