A little off topic, but kind of cool....

Shane Kinney Sep 21, 2008 01:07 PM

After coming down from Pryamid Peak in the desolation wilderness(Sierra Nevada Mtns.)yesterday, I came across this little guy only a few minutes (about 400 feet in elevation)above Hwy 50...

... yep, its a rubber boa! This sub adult male was stretched out at about 6300' on a fairly steep hillside at 6pm with an air temp of about 60 degrees. Sometimes it's hard to believe this is actually a boa, but they're kind of cool! After our encounter and photo session, he was released to go on his merry way.

Here's a "real" boa with a little more color and pattern!

Have a great rest of the weekend! Go Steelers!

Shane:

Great find!

I've been hunting snakes all of my life and have yet to catch a rubber boa in the wild.

What a great way to add to the hike.

Thanks for sharing
