Will bearded dragons eat dead insects?

ekpunobi Sep 06, 2003 07:55 AM

I want to go ahead and order 1000 crickets, gut load them, and freeze them. My sugar gliders will eat them dead, but will the baby dragon?? If so, could I order the larger crickets and chop them up for him?

If you got your beardie used to eating them that way, yes. I wouldn't just freeze them and expect your beardie to readily except them.

Since my 5 year old daughter is afraid of crix, I had to come up with something and both my adults and babies eat frozen (thawed) crix!

Works well for me... If you want some tips on switching them over to "prekilled" drop me a line via email.

When I feed my dragons, I feed them in a seperate cage. If there are some dead crickets, I just pour them in there and after eating live ones, they assume they're food and eat them. They've also eaten the shedded skin too. Pour in live ones first, then start pouring in dead ones, when the live ones are gone, they will eventually go for the dea. Then just start increasing the amount of dead that you give them, until that's all you give them and they should go for it. Good Luck.

A few years ago there was a dish that vibrated dead crickets to make them more appealing to the beardies. I can't remeber what it was called and don't know where to get one but a little research would probably turn something up for you or maybe someone in the forum knows....

I see those all the time at PetCo. Has anyone used them?
