What are the differences between Bloods, Borneo's, Sumatran pythons? Subspecies of one or closely related species in a complex?

Kissing cousins.

Red Blood, Blood Python, Malaysian Blood - Python brongersmai
Black Blood or Sumatran Short Tail - Python curtus
Borneo Short tail (or borneo blood)(note sarawaks are a locality of the borneo STPs) - Python breitensteini

If I am wrong someone please correct me.

What Cindy said... They are entirely seperate species.

Man, the splitters have been busy lately in the Taxonimist Club! LOL. So its a species complex now? Sorta like when they split the races of Naja Naja into FULL species..
I really need to get the Barkers Python books, everything I have access to is at least 10-15 years out of date!

Thanks,
Matthew

LOL. Nah, I think more like senility phase of this stuff. Besides, since evolution is ongoing, things will always be more flexible than most people realize.

So they are no longer considered a subspecies of P. curtus ( Bloods that is..). The older books have them listed as such.

I'm hoping I'm not becoming a pest, but let me make a request. Can I see pics of Borneo's, Blood's & Sumatran Pythons. I want to compare them.. If its not a hassle that is..

Thanks!
Matthew

Sorry, Someone else will have to post a pic of their normal red. I have none here. Just the borneos for now.

Also Rich can post a pic of a Borneo, Sarawak Locality. Otherwise, you may have to wait a few weeks for me to post that.

Thanks Cindy,

That was very helpful & informative. I actually tried to look up some of the various Short-tails in The Classified section of Kingsnake.com. Not all the pics or ads were helpful or worked..
My new baby is a complete glutton, btw. Got of work early today on account of catching some human virus, so I grabbed some mice takeout on the way home. He beat the ratsnakes to his/hers!

Sincerely,
Matthew
