getting a leo to eat more

denverbmx Sep 22, 2008 12:42 PM

So recentley I purchased a pair of juvie SHTCT's from my local reptile expo. When I got home I weighed them both and they were both around 10 grams. I normally feed mainly mealworms to my juvies but they both did not seem very interested in them.(they both ate a few) I figured out they had been kept on a diet of crickets only soon after. I bought some small crickets for them and the female ate tons no problem but the male only cought 1 maybe 2. Its been the same ever since. Its been a month and a half since and the female is now 15 grams and the male weighs 10.5 or so. I can't find a way to get him interested more in food or to eat more. He won't eat worms like wax worms to fatten him up. I even tried organic turkey baby food with smushed meals in it.(he only ate little bits of what I put on his nose) any ideas on how to fix this? His tail is tiny and he is growing very slow. His cage is papertowl substrate with 3 hides(warm, cool, moist), and it stays 90 at one end and 82 or so at the other. I just don't want to risk his life due to the fact he dosent like eating much. Thanks for any help.

You could try smashing a waxworm and putting a little "goo" on the tip of their noses. They will lick it off. After several times, they'll have the equivalent of a whole waxworm in their tummy. It may sound tedious but it may be just enough to get them to look at waxworms as food.
