New BP has dry lump on belly?

SlytherinSerpent Sep 22, 2008 06:44 PM

I bought a baby BP today, they said she was about 3-4 weeks old and has been feeding. I realized when I got home that she has a dry thing on her belly, it's definitely attached, looks like it's coming right out of her belly. It's small, but I'm very worried about her. I did email the person I bought her from and am waiting to hear back. She was the last female so I hope she'll be OK as I can't trade her back for a different one. I tried to take a picture but can't get a clear one. Do baby BPs have some kind of belly button that takes a while to dry out and fall off? I'm hoping it's something that simple and not a serious problem.

It is probably an umbilical cord that just hasn't fallen all the way off. It will come off eventually.

Some babies come out of the egg without absorbing all of the egg yolk which then shows like a little lump on their bellies. This is probably the case with your snake. It should dry out and fall off. You could put some iodine on it to avoid infections, but it's usually nothing to worry too much about.
