Paul -- Had a great time herpin with you guys this past weekend. Congrats on the eastern chain find! I have not gotten these little baby easterns or speks to take a meal yet but have some live pinkies coming in a few days. They have no interest in a baby garter snake for some reason-- my baby milks didnt either!

Hey Joe,

Nice to meet you too. Hope to pick up where we left off in the field next year.

I've always problems getting baby chains from the northern part of their range (NJ, MD, DE)to take pinks right off the bat. They definitely prefer snakes to mice. I read your post about the king refusing the garter snake. I doubt that will last if you make them cage mates.

Try scenting with gecko, fence lizard or skink.

Good luck.

Paul

Thanks for the info Paul. I will try those things. I am ordering some house gekos for feeders so I dont think it should be too long for a meal. They look very healthy and I think have enough yolk stores for some time. One of the speks shed yesterday so that would keep that one from eating. Have the others had the second shed yet or do you not know? I hope to find some snakes friday when I go to my river spot in silver spring, md. I will let you guys know.
