Some pip's from today

DMong Sep 23, 2008 10:21 AM

Here's a few pics of some tangerine's. They are 100% het for ghost(from extreme sire).

~Doug

I no sooner slit a "window" in this egg before it popped it's head out to discover the new world..LOL!

A couple other's that came out overnight

This one was poised for a nice portrait, so I snapped one off.

Very nice Doug, those look like some pretty big eggs!

Thanks, Tim!,...yes, what's funny is the fact that they grew significantly in size since they were first laid, and not from too much moisture either. The eggs originally were on the thin, long side, and were laid by a very small female anerythristic. I was also amazed at the actual growth of the eggs during the incubation period.

This pretty much reinforces the fact that small females will often lay longer, but thinner eggs due to the obvious smaller diameter of their body(and cloaca), but the extra length of the egg compensates for what it originally lacked in diameter, and allows the embryo's to swell some to go onto be very good sized neonates. In other words, basically a normal volumed egg, only very elongated. I was still quite amazed at how much the eggs swelled to allow for very large, robust hatchlings!

Wow! Awesome pictures and beautiful snakes Doug!

DMong Sep 23, 2008 06:46 PM

Thanks a bunch!, they turned out much more tangerine than I was expecting, since an "old-school" anery was the mother. Those much older bloodlines from 12 years ago were tricolors.

I guess the extreme sire's genes really had a strong tendency towards the tangerine coloration, as opposed to more intermediates.

Thanks Chris!,...those, along with the several other nice "visual" ghosts I have, as well as other varieties, should definitely produce some nice stuff in the near future!

Thanks, bro!,.......well, I think I finally discovered a way to get some good photo results after LOTS of trial and error!, and messing with different settings and types of lighting. I was quite pleased with the way those clutch pics turned out, and I'm glad you thought so too, Dave.

As you know, getting good pics can be a REAL headache sometimes.

later!, ~Doug
