Question?

sd0719 Sep 23, 2008 11:05 AM

I recently built a large enclosure for my dragon and I have a small dilemma. I would like to install a procelain socket to be used with a bulb for a basking site. I don't want to use a dome and I've been to home depot and they don't seem to have anything of the sort. I have seen they have sockets that are meant to be hardwired into a gang box but am looking for something that is either pre-wired or something that sits flush without the use of a gang box. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i use the porcelain fixtures in my home cages. I just cut a hole in the wood big enough to allow the wires to be accessed from the top of the cage and screw mounted it. Then I just wired it to an extension cord and covered with electrical tape.

As I have no creatures or people to worry about disturbing the wires its an idea setup. IF you have cats or kids, probably best to use some sort of cover to ensure the screws the wires go in are not touched.

like this? You can either hard wire wich is very easy or use the pocelin socket from a dome(minus the dome) I have both installed but dont use the dome fixture. I had 2 dome fixture and used the wire with the switch for the hard wired porcelin fixture(have since installed a box for hard wired porcelin fixture) it was very simple, only 2 screws. Im sure you can find the materials at home depot to make your own very easily. Just make sure the wire and switch are rated for the wattage you will be using.
