Vision Hatchling Rack Heating

Dean38 Sep 23, 2008 05:09 PM

What is the best way to run the cable for these racks? I started running 4 passes back and forth and after four levels it apaears I will not have enough if I continue to make four passes. Do those that use these racks run the heat cable one level at a time as they assemble or after assembly is complete. Any input on this and how to place the probe would be great.

Thanks

I'm using two rows of cable - with 1 1/2 inches between the two rows -- works well.

Measure exactly how many inches of heat cable you have. Remember that not all of the cable gets hot. Then divide the number on inches of heat cable by the number of levels. This will tell you how many inches of cable you can use on each level. Mark the heat cable with a piece of tape at the intervals you have just calculated. The piece of tape should fall at the edge of the shelf when you are going up to the next level.
Good Luck, Mike

I did not loop mine at all, but ran it kind of squiggled, along the back, and I have had no issues with heat at all. The tubs are small, and heat up easily.

Two passes is usually plenty.
