found this guy in west Texas.
is it a Texas night snake? i live in So Cal and here that same looking snake is a spotted night snake. are they the same? thanks.

Although they are similar, they are not the same, there are several different subspecies in California alone. I believe that's a San Diego Nightsnake(Hypsiglena ochrorhyncha klauberi).

Yes you are correct, its a TX night snake. Same species as the spotted night snake, different subspecies:
TX night snake - Hypsiglena torquata jani
Spotted night snake - Hypsiglena torquata ochrorhyncha
Boy, do I feel stupid!.LOL!, yes, it is certainly a Texas Night Snake as you mentioned.
I mis-read the post, and thought he found that one in southern Cal.........it was VERY late last night..LOL!
In Southern Cal., it would be the one I mentioned earlier.
I hate making silly mistakes like that!
